Dave Reid and Cheryl Masson hope to inspire more Exeter and area residents to support their community through United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH). That’s why they’ve chosen to talk about their decision to be UWPH Leader Match donors this year. Leader Match donors donate $6,000 to inspire five other people to give at the Leadership level of $100 per month.
“We’ve given to UWPH at the Leader Match level before,” said Exeter and Area Community Committee Co-chair Dave Reid. “But this year Cheryl and I thought it was important to spread the word and try to motivate a few more local people to give. As co-chair of the Exeter committee, I also wanted to share more about the amazing things UWPH has been part of in South Huron and really show why it’s such an effective way to support the community.”
UWPH is committed to addressing local issues. When the Street to Feet committee first approached UWPH to help address chronic homelessness, the organization stepped up to help. UWPH brought the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) walk to Exeter in support of homeless, hungry and hurting people, raising over $43,000. The second annual CNOY in Exeter is scheduled for February 20, 2021.
UWPH’s local efforts also helped raise funds to open three more beds at the Huron Turning Point. In addition, UWPH successfully partnered with the County of Huron to bring new housing location services and ongoing support for successful tenancy to the County as well as supporting ongoing prevention and support services for youth and women and temporary emergency shelter during cold months.
“UWPH is grateful to Dave and Cheryl for their generosity,” added UWPH Executive Director Ryan Erb. “UWPH can help Exeter and area thanks to great local donors. All money raised locally stays here to help address pressing local issues. We hope others will take up Dave and Cheryl’s challenge to make a difference through UWPH.”
