The Seaforth Cooperative Children’s Centre is committed to the children and parents they serve. Now, they’ve committed to the well-being of their employees and community by becoming the latest Huron organization to certify as a living wage employer.
“Great emphasis is placed on the well-being of children in our care and the connection we create through parents and the community here in Seaforth,” said Seaforth Cooperative Children’s Centre Executive Director Alenka Watson, RECE. “By bringing focus back to the added importance of well-being for employees in the classroom, it is imperative for educators to feel supported by their employer which directly impacts the overall culture and community within the childcare here at the centre. We are proud to call ourselves a living wage employer!”
“We’d like to thank the Seaforth Cooperative Children’s Centre for certifying,” added United Way Perth-Huron Executive Director Ryan Erb. “Stronger communities don’t happen by accident. They happen because local organizations are willing to commit to supporting their employees through initiatives such as the living wage. We appreciate the centre making this investment in their people.”
Based on a 35-hour work week, the Perth-Huron living wage is calculated regularly using local data and takes into account the living expenses of a weighted average of family types including a family of four, a single mother supporting a seven-year-old child and a single adult, once government transfers and deductions are factored in. Everyday expenses in the calculation include housing, food, utilities, childcare and transportation. For more information about Perth-Huron’s living wage, GO HERE.
