Giving Tuesday is on December 3, 2019 and United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH) has an opportunity for donors across the region.
“UWPH is happy to be part of this event,” said UWPH Executive Director Ryan Erb. “And we’re excited to announce that a generous United Way donor has offered to match all donations, up to $25,000, in the week leading up to and including Giving Tuesday.”
Now in its seventh year, Giving Tuesday is a global effort to improve local communities created as a response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. At a time when the numbers show that many in Perth and Huron Counties are struggling — half of households in the region earn less than the recently announced Living Wage of $17.55 an hour — the local work generous donors help UWPH accomplish in communities takes on added importance.
As part of Giving Tuesday in St. Marys, singer and songwriter Emm Gryner will be at St. Marys Town Hall Auditorium starting at 7 p.m. Emm’s Notes and Keys show is an hour of stories, songs and inspiration from her musical life. Donations to NOURISH Equal Access Food Market via UWPH are gratefully accepted. Holy Name of Mary School is holding a bake sale at the auditorium to support NOURISH.
“The committee is proud that UWPH is part of Giving Tuesday in St. Marys,” said UWPH St. Marys Committee Chair John McGarry. “Residents have supported the NOURISH Equal Access Food Market and made it a success.
“It’s a great example of United Way working with the community to address issues that are important to people in St. Marys. We look forward to working toward our next project — a Community Connector to link residents with local services — and Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for people to help us build on our accomplishments.”
“Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity to give back to our communities,” added Erb. “Especially at a time of year when so much of the focus is on shopping and buying, this is a chance to make a statement of caring.”
