FIO Automotive Canada Corporation recently became Stratford’s first large scale manufacturer to certify as a Living Wage Employer in the Champion category.
“FIO recognizes the importance of the Living Wage program,” says Debbie Colclough, Sr. Manager of FIO Automotive Canada Corporation. “We are doing our part to make Stratford known as a great place to live and work.”
Calculated annually by the United Way Perth-Huron’s Social Research and Planning Council, the Living Wage is a calculation based on the living expenses of a typical family of four with both adults working full-time for 35 hours a week, once government transfers and deductions are taken into account. Everyday expenses included in the calculation are food, housing, utilities, childcare and transportation. Perth-Huron’s Living Wage is currently $17.55 per hour. Visit perthhuron.unitedway.ca/research/living-wage/ for more information. FIO’s current starting wage is $18.03 per hour.
“FIO is taking a genuine step forward in our community for social change,” added United Way Perth-Huron Executive Director Ryan Erb. “By becoming a Certified Living Wage Employer, FIO is recognizing that the Living Wage constitutes a critical investment in the long-term prosperity of the local economy by fostering a dedicated, skilled and healthy workforce. Employers can collectively improve the quality of life in our community by joining the Living Wage discussion. Employees benefit by being able to earn a sufficient income to pay for basic necessities and live with dignity as well as participate in our community. This is a huge success for FIO, the Living Wage movement and the citizens of Stratford.”
