Bodmin Limited has an excellent reason to celebrate. They are the first employer to certify as a Living Wage Champion in Brussels, Ontario.
“The hard work, skill, and dedication contributed by people over the years have been responsible for the success and growth of the business,” says Kate Procter, Owner/Manager of Bodmin Limited. “It is important to recognize that contribution by paying a living wage. Individuals, families, and communities are all stronger and more resilient if people are able to have a decent quality of life.”
Calculated annually by the United Way Perth-Huron’s Social Research and Planning Council, the Living Wage is a calculation based on the living expenses of a family of four with both adults working full-time for 35 hours a week, once government transfers and deductions are taken into account. Everyday expenses included in the calculation are food, housing, utilities, childcare and transportation. Perth-Huron Counties’ Living Wage is $17.55 per hour. “The Living Wage is bigger than income. It helps improve the overall quality of life Perth and Huron Counties,” says United Way Perth-Huron Executive Director Ryan Erb. “Employers like Bodmin Limited are demonstrating a real commitment to build strong communities. We are excited that Bodmin Limited joined the Living Wage movement.”
