Aeonic Kitchens are celebrating becoming Listowel’s latest certified Living Wage Employer in the champion category.
“We believe that anyone who works in today’s economy deserves a fair wage with which they can support themselves and their families,” says Herman Siebring and Jason Hovius, co-owners of Aeonic Kitchens. “It is unconscionable that anyone should be denied the basic dignity that comes with providing for one’s own needs, especially if they are active in contributing to the local and global economy. We at Aeonic Kitchens pride ourselves on supporting our local economy any way we can. We believe giving our employees a Living Wage is the start of a sustainable economy and empowers them to pass that onto others.”
Calculated annually by the United Way Perth-Huron’s Social Research and Planning Council, the Living Wage calculation is based on the living expenses of a family of four with both adults working full-time for 35 hours a week, once government transfers and deductions are taken into account. Everyday expenses included in the calculation are food, housing, utilities, childcare and transportation. Perth-Huron Counties’ Living Wage is $17.55 per hour.
