With two months to go in the campaign, United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH) has reached 83 per cent of its 2019/2020 goal. To celebrate, UWPH Executive Director Ryan Erb and Campaign Co-chair Martin Ritsma joined with Jeff Skubowius from Famme and Co. to light a light bulb on the campaign thermometer.
“We’re grateful for the impact of supportive workplaces like Famme and Co., who contributed $25,000 to UWPH this year,” said Erb. “We talk all the time about people facing up to #UNIGNORABLE issues like poverty, homelessness and mental health in our community. The team at Famme and Co. are taking up that challenge and working to inspire others to give.”
Now more than ever many friends, neighbours and family members are struggling. One out of every two households in Perth-Huron earn less than the current Living Wage of $17.55 an hour. The pressing needs in local communities mean that while UWPH proudly celebrates reaching milestones like 80 per cent of the campaign goal, the organization isn’t slowing down any time soon.
“We appreciate the response from across our region but we can’t rest yet,” added Erb. “This past year, UWPH helped 39,000 people across Perth and Huron — that’s 7,000 more people than the previous year — so reaching our goal becomes even more important. The $277,706 left to raise means more programs, more services and opportunities for more local people to have a brighter future. We can only accomplish that goal with the help of everyone in our community.”
