United Way set to kick off campaign in Stratford with community lunch

Every year, thousands of people across Perth-Huron benefit from services supported by United Way Perth-Huron thanks to the generosity of local donors. On Friday, Sept. 18, United Way will launch its 2026 fundraising campaign in Stratford with a lunchtime event in Market Square behind City Hall.

“We are looking forward to launching this year’s fundraising campaign,” said Ryan Erb, CEO of United Way Perth-Huron. “Every donation helps ensure vulnerable local people can access the programs and services they need. The kickoff gives us an opportunity to celebrate the community and build momentum for the work ahead.”

“We’ve been coming to, and enjoying, the kickoff for years so it’s wonderful being involved as campaign co-chairs this year and seeing it from the other side,” said Campaign Co-Chairs for Perth, Marian deWever and June Leitch. “This event gives people a chance to enjoy some lunch, catch up with friends and neighbours, and get excited about the work United Way can accomplish thanks to support from local donors.”

“At Sun Life, we believe in strengthening the communities where we live and work, which is why we’re proud to support United Way’s vital mission to address local needs,” said Devin Van Nynatten, Financial Planner at GC Financial Solutions – Sun Life Financial. “Through our donations, volunteer efforts and employee engagement, we’re committed to creating meaningful, lasting change that improves lives and builds healthier, more resilient communities.”

Presented by Sun Life Financial and taking place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., the kickoff event brings together supporters, volunteers, workplace campaign organizers and partners to celebrate the start of another year of local giving and community impact. The ceremony announcing this year’s fundraising total will begin at 12:15 p.m.

Guests will enjoy a taco bowl lunch, beverage and dessert. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the event. Food is prepared by volunteers from Sun Life Financial with help from the chef at the Local Community Food Centre.

Food sponsors include Black Angus Catering and the Perth County Beef Farmers.

The event is made possible through the financial support of Sun Life Financial, Resonance, NOW Sutton Real Estate and Artas Engineering & Design.
