United Way Perth-Huron launched the 2021-22 campaign with an ambitious goal of $2,002,061 and a commitment to continue working hard to address #UNIGNORABLE issues such as poverty, mental health and homelessness in northern Huron.
“We’re excited to have the campaign underway,” said Lisa Harper, United Way Perth-Huron Manager Community Development, Northern Huron. “We can’t wait to get out there and safely connect with our community and share the work UWPH is involved with to help build stronger communities across our area.”
As part of kick-off celebrations in northern Huron, United Way invited people to “Unite for a Bite” by buying lunch at their favourite participating local restaurant in Blyth and Wingham including the Blyth Inn, Great China House, Castings Public House and Subway. Restaurants offered the option of adding a donation in support of UWPH to food orders, or giving to donation jars displayed in the restaurant.
Part of United Way’s strength is a willingness to collaborate with local organizations, government and volunteers to identify pressing needs in the community and work on solutions. In the coming months, UWPH’s new Northern Huron & Area Community Committee — including Kate Procter (chair), Nicole Duquette-Jutzi, Amelia Fehr, Connie Goodall, Shawn Lawler, Denise Lockie, Roxane Nicholson, Patricia Smith and Rev. JoAnn Todd — will be focused on identifying those needs in northern Huron.
“This is an important step for the community as we all unite to support vulnerable people in northern Huron,” added UWPH Executive Director Ryan Erb. “We want to be part of the solution locally and ensure more people have the chance for a brighter future.”
