On Stage Dance Studio has an outstanding reason to celebrate. They are the first arts organization in Stratford to certify as a Living Wage Employer Champion.
“I am thrilled to be able to certify as a Living Wage Employer in Stratford,” says Meghan Seaman, Owner and Artistic Director of On Stage Dance Studio. “In the arts especially, there can sometimes be the idea that having a passion for your work means you will accept lower pay. It’s important for me to lead by example in my community by paying my employees a fair wage for their expertise, knowledge, and experience.”
Calculated annually by the United Way Perth-Huron’s Social Research and Planning Council, the Living Wage is a calculation based on the living expenses of a family of four with both adults working full-time for 35 hours a week, once government transfers and deductions are taken into account. Everyday expenses included in the calculation are food, housing, utilities, childcare and transportation. Perth-Huron Counties’ Living Wage is $17.55 per hour. More information about Perth-Huron’s Living Wage can be found HERE.
“We are excited to welcome On Stage Dance Studio to the Living Wage Movement,” says Social Research and Planning Council Director, Susanna Reid. “The Living Wage reflects what individuals need to earn to cover the actual costs of living in their community. By doing so, employers profit with reduced turnover and training costs. Employees benefit by not having the stress of choosing which bills to pay in a particular month. On Stage Dance Studio is a leader in our community by joining the Living Wage Movement. ”
About On Stage Dance Studio
At On Stage Dance Studio, we are committed to encouraging and nurturing an appreciation and love for dance in every child. Yes, we create talented dancers and artists – but never at the expense of their joy or self-confidence. Our priority is to help kids become their best possible selves and to express joy through movement. At On Stage, our kids are always smiling and loving who they are – just the way we like it! We strongly believe in the power of dance to educate, enrich, and inspire, and know that the skills we teach will serve our students well far beyond the dance classroom – after all, dance lessons are life lessons! We’ve been sharing the joy of dance with the Stratford community for more than 15 years, and are passionate about dance education for children.
