South West Ontario Veterinary Services takes care of their animals and clients and they also take care of their employees. That’s why they’ve chosen to become the latest local Certified Living Wage Employer, ensuring a happier, healthier workforce.
“We’re committed to prioritizing our people and our culture,” said Amanda Ropp, People and Culture Lead at South West Vets. “A big part of that commitment is ensuring a sense of security for everyone we work with, clients and employees alike. Certifying as a living wage employer speaks to that core value and our desire as an organization to lead by example in the communities we serve.”
Calculated annually by United Way Perth-Huron’s Social Research and Planning Council, the living wage is based on the living expenses of a family of four with both adults working full-time for 35 hours a week, once government transfers and deductions are taken into account. Everyday expenses included in the calculation are food, housing, utilities, childcare and transportation. Perth-Huron’s living wage is currently $17.55 per hour. For more information, GO HERE.
“Fifty per cent of people in our local community are earning less than a living wage and this issue is amplified during disruptions like a pandemic,” added Social Research and Planning Council Director Joëlle Lamport-Lewis. “Businesses like South West Vets are helping improve these statistics by providing their staff with sufficient funds to enhance opportunity and quality of life. This certification is one to be celebrated.”
