The Town of Goderich is proud to partner with the United Way Perth-Huron in a “caremongering” initiative – Local Love in a Global Crisis. The aim of this initiative is to bring individuals and organizations that have been affected by COVID-19 together with those who are able to lend a hand.
A new website has been launched at http://helpdolocalgood.ca/ to provide information on how to help and how to receive help. An Urgent Needs Fund has been established to accept donations to support both individuals and organizations coping with the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. A volunteer link allows individuals and organizations to offer their assistance to others, and most importantly, a link has been established for those that need help, providing information on community resources including 211 community information.
In addition to the website, there is an associated Facebook group called Huron-Perth Covid 19 Resource Group – Help is Close to Home which provides information and support for people during these challenging times. The Facebook group allows individuals to identify any needs and for others to offer assistance, donations, and information on available resources in real time.
For those who do not use Facebook or have access to the internet, you can contact reception@perthhuron.unitedway.ca or call 519-271-7730, leaving a phone number and brief message identifying how and where you can help. If you require assistance, you can call “211”.
“The Town and the United Way are working together in this incredible initiative,” states Mayor John C. Grace, Town of Goderich. “We want to ensure those members of our community who require help are provided with that assistance. From pick-up and delivery of essential items, to donating your time or resources, donors and volunteers play an integral and important role at this time. We are one community and we are all in this together. Help your neighbours, stay safe, stay strong and be positive.”
“In these uncertain days, we can turn toward each other. We can be certain that in this community someone cares,” added United Way Huron-Perth Executive Director Ryan Erb. “Let’s Stand together, rise above fear and help each other safely.”
