Accumetal Manufacturing’s success comes from their willingness to invest in the latest metal fabrication and welding technology as well as the well-being of their employees. Now, the company has furthered their commitment to employees by certifying as a living wage employer.
“We are proud to be formalizing our ongoing commitment to pay our employees above a wage that ensures a decent standard of living,” said Heather Brown, controller at Accumetal Manufacturing. “The men and women of Accumetal are a dedicated and skilled bunch who deserve to be compensated fairly for their time so they can live well and prosper in our community.”
Based on a 35-hour work week, the Perth-Huron living wage is calculated regularly using local data and took into account the living expenses of a weighted average of family types including a family of four, a single mother supporting a seven-year-old child and a single adult, once government transfers and deductions were taken into account. Everyday expenses in the calculation included food, housing, utilities, childcare and transportation. For more information about Perth-Huron’s living wage, GO HERE.
“The living wage discussion is an important one and needs to continue,” added Social Research & Planning Council Director Joëlle Lamport-Lewis. “We appreciate that local businesses like Accumetal are supporting their workers — and the long-term health of our community — by certifying as living wage employers. Their involvement in this issue can help inspire other businesses and improve local lives.”
About Accumetal Manufacturing Inc.
Accumetal Manufacturing Inc. was started in 2002, when the assets of a Stratford metal fabrication company were purchased. Capitalizing on the expertise of existing employees and new technology, Accumetal grew quickly into a leading producer of fabricated metal components for off road equipment manufacturing industries — Rail, Defense, Mining and Recycling. A new manufacturing facility was built in 2008 and three additions later over 80 employees on two shifts produce high quality components out of 60,000 sq/ft of manufacturing and office space.
