What does it mean to belong in a community, and how can that sense of belonging be strengthened?
Everyone is invited to explore those questions through Belonging Here, a community workshop focused on building a shared understanding of belonging in North Perth and identifying ways to strengthen it.
Running from 12:30–4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Kin Station in Listowel, the workshop is based on the idea that belonging is more than a feeling. It influences health, participation, safety, trust, volunteerism and the willingness to contribute to community life. Participants will help define belonging and identify what helps people feel welcomed, valued and connected.
“Strong communities are built when people feel they belong,” said Todd Kasenberg, United Way Perth-Huron Manager, Community Development, North Perth. “This workshop will help us better understand what supports belonging in North Perth, where barriers exist and what steps we can take to create a more welcoming and inclusive community.”
The goal of the workshop is to produce a draft 90-Day Community Belonging Action Plan. Organizers hope the workshop will serve as a starting point for long-term collaboration rather than a one-time conversation.
“Belonging affects every aspect of community life,” added Kasenberg. “When people feel connected and valued, communities are healthier, more resilient and better equipped to support everyone. This workshop is an opportunity to move from discussion to action.”
