February 11 is 211 Day, highlighting the free, confidential service available to everyone, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in more than 150 languages. 211 connects people with the supports they need when they don’t know where to turn.
“211 is an important service providing people with connection and support,” said Susan Faber, United Way Director Resource Development and Communications. “Unfortunately, not everyone knows about the hotline, so 211 Day is an opportunity to let people know there is a resource available to help ensure that whatever challenge you may face, you don’t have to face it alone.”
Whether someone is struggling with mental health, facing food insecurity, or looking for immediate financial assistance, 211 can help.
Locally, UWPH funds 211 and the helpline is the first step in accessing the organization’s Urgent Needs Fund. United Way also maintains local records in the 211 database, ensuring people have access to the most up-to-date information about programs and services across the region. Last year, more than 1,500 calls came to 211 Ontario from Perth-Huron.
As Canada’s primary source of information for government and community-based, non-clinical health and social services, 211 plays a critical role in helping people navigate supports quickly and effectively. United Way Canada is a proud founding partner of 211 in Canada, providing funding and support, and advocating to make it available across the country.
