75 per cent of goal achieved!

With $529,031 already raised during the capital campaign, United Housing is looking to achieve their goal of $705,000 for the Music Hall Apartments project in downtown Listowel.

“Affordable housing is critical to the health and vibrancy of our region,” said Ryan Erb, Executive Director of United Housing and United Way Perth-Huron. “The Music Hall Apartments project is one step toward providing a solution to the housing crisis in North Perth. We need everyone’s support to reach our goal and help make it a reality.

“We’d also like to thank our North Perth Capital Campaign Cabinet — chair Allan Rothwell, Tom Soltys, Laurie and Dennis Nuhn and Dr. Rob Annis — for all their hard work, and to the individual and corporate donors who have already supported the campaign.”

“Raising these funds in addition to the money already raised through our Community Bond campaign is critical to the project’s completion,” added Kathy Vassilakos, Director of United Housing. “Because capital donations don’t require us to pay back interest and principal like bonds or a traditional mortgage, our operating costs aren’t impacted once the project is up and running. That makes the difference between being able to offer affordable/attainable rents as opposed to solely market rents.”

“The Music Hall apartment project utilizes the vacant upper floor of a downtown building to provide 10 mixed income rental units,” added Allan Rothwell, North Perth Capital Campaign Cabinet chair. “When complete, this project will demonstrate to communities the importance of investing in our existing buildings and infrastructure to provide people with an opportunity to live in affordable housing close to work and amenities in the heart of Listowel.”

Located at 190–198 Main Street West, the Music Hall Apartments includes 4,500 square feet of currently unused space. The finished project will encompass a mix of market-rate, moderately priced workforce units and deeply affordable units.
