United Way Perth-Huron wants to share more about their plans for a new Access Centre in Exeter.
“We are thrilled to bring an Access Centre to Exeter,” said Ryan Erb, United Way Executive Director. “This is a tremendous opportunity to offer people across Southern Huron a chance to access the information and assistance they need in one, central, easy-to-reach location. The centre is a positive step toward fulfilling our vision of improved access to programs and services for everyone.”
The Exeter centre is part of United Way’s strategy to address transportation challenges and other barriers to accessing services in our rural region by bringing services into communities that otherwise would not have them. Along with The Well Youth Hub and host programs operated by the Huron Perth Children’s Aid Society, the hope is to include mental health, social services, employment support and more. Further details will be announced as they are confirmed.
Access Centres are designed to offer broad service access. The model for these centres is based on the successful Vanastra Access Centre, which has significantly improved service accessibility for Vanastra area residents.
In contrast, United Way Connection Centres — including the centre located at the Exeter Pentecostal Tabernacle — focus on helping vulnerable individuals experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness. Assistance available at connection centres includes access basic needs such as laundry, food, and showers, along with the possibility to connect with services that help individuals on their journey toward stable housing, or other challenges they may face.
The official opening date for the Exeter Access Centre has not yet been decided. More details will be announced in the future.
United Way is looking to furnish the centre and is ready to receive inquiries from service providers who may want to utilize the space to meet with clients or to host meetings. A list of needed items includes:
- Large screen television, preferably with a wall mount bracket
- Ping-pong table
- Folding tables (six) and folding chairs (12 to 16)
- Office chairs (two to three)
- Easy chairs (two to four)
- Computer desk
- Small fridge with freezer
- Small stove or microwave
