How One Person Can Make a Difference in our Community
You can feel the positive energy flowing when you’re in the company of Terri Sparling, enthusiastic community advocate and Chief Executive Officer of the Huron Perth Centre. However, it is her personal interest in music and passionate support of United Way Perth-Huron that lead her to organize and be the sole volunteer of the Winter Concert Series. From selling tickets to organizing sponsors, Terri has it covered. “We have a great music community here in Stratford, and to be able to combine it with some of our wonderful venues and support United Way in the process, it just seemed a natural fit as an event I could pour my heart into.” If the audience is lucky, she will hopefully step up to the mic herself, “I’m an amateur vocalist and enjoy sharing my hobby”.
As a community planning advocate and long-time supporter of United Way Perth-Huron, Sparling has been serving on the Social Research and Planning Council since 2013. In her work with the Huron- Perth Centre, a counselling service for children and youth who struggle with mental health issues, and her other work within the two counties, she understands the vital role United Way plays in the community, “I see the work at the ground level. Community organizations that struggle to get funding from other sources find support from United Way, not only financially, but through collaborative support, advocacy and solid research to base their work on”.
The response to the concert series, now in its second year, has been outstanding. An early bird special is still available until Jan 27th, 2017 where the entire series can be bought as a package for $80. Otherwise each concert is $25.00 each.
The concerts are as listed:

The Valentine’s string quartet, playing a range of selections from Baroque to present day pop artists with the theme of love, promises to be a great night out for couples and groups alike. Likewise, what better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than with Mystic Fyre’s fresh Celtic music being offered up to those having a great time at Revival House on March 10th. Local musician Brad Canning will open for Mystic Fyre. The Eagles are featured on March 23rd by New Kid in Town. The final concert on April 9th will be a wonderful way for the community of all denominations and faiths to come together and celebrate spring, with Mannheim Virtuosi offering uplifting and jubilant music. This concert will be at Avondale United Church, a larger venue to accommodate the greater crowd expected.
Concert goers to Revival House are encouraged to book a table and enjoy dinner or brunch before or during the performances, “Revival House is such a terrific venue, the acoustics are superb and Rob and the gang are so supportive of the music series and the work United Way is doing”, shared Terri. Reservations can be made at (519) 273-3424. Tickets for all concerts are available at Revival House, 70 Brunswick Street and Treasures, 151 Ontario Street OR by email request at email@example.com The $80 package for all four concerts is available only until Jan 27th, and each individual concert is $25.
“Terri is a great example of how possibilities are ignited in our communities, by people like you and me,’’ observes Carolynne Champagne of United Way. “She knows what she’s good at and what she enjoys doing and by focusing her attention in these areas she will make a difference. Understanding how United Way provides real solutions by supporting close to 50 partner services across Huron and Perth Counties she has committed to helping United Way Perth-Huron meet the campaign goal of $1,337,000 in this fun way. Thank you Terri and to all the “Terri’s” out there in Perth and Huron.” Buy tickets, donate and help raise awareness of the importance to reach the United Way Perth-Huron campaign goal this year. To all going to the concerts…enjoy!
