The Next Step Action Centre Completion

The Next Step Action Centre Completion

The Next Step Action Centre was established in January 2012 to assist the over 200 displaced workers from FRAM Group (Canada) Inc. in conjunction with United Way Perth-Huron.  The Centre assisted workers to search for jobs, learn about retraining and educational programs, and receive information about community support services.  In January 2013 the Centre offered their service to Spartech Color Inc. of Stratford who was given closure notice of April 2013, over 46 workers were affected with this announcement.

On October 17th, 2013 the Centre hosted an Open House to thank its community partners for the support and cooperation they have received over the past 20 months.    Sometimes life throws you a curve ball, and turning that into a positive can be difficult but through the support of the Service Providers, Employment Ontario and United Way Perth-Huron we have succeed in the hand we were dealt.

“I was at FRAM for 20 years…most of my adult life.…I left in the first round of layoffs in November 2011 and now that seems like a life time ago, so much has happened. I decided to take a big leap of faith and go back to school full time with the help of Second Career at Fanshawe (in London) for the Office Administration-Medical program. It was very scary the first year but with a lot adjustments and hard work, I ended up with an A+ average at the end of the year. I was very proud of this accomplishment!  I have to thank all of the ladies at the Next Step Action Centre for all their support and encouragement through this whole process. The seminars that were available for us at the Centre were very helpful and I am very grateful they were available to help me through my transition from a factory worker to an office administrator.

I am in my second (final) year and although it is a lot tougher than last year, I plan to land my dream job after graduation in April of next year. I will miss dropping by to see everyone at the Centre and so will my dog Eby!”  ~ Ruth Moore

The Next Step Action Centre would like to thank Employment Ontario and United Way Perth-Huron for their partnership and support.
