Last month our Social Research and Planning Council released a new report, “The Heart of Community, A Report on Volunteerism in Perth and Huron Counties.” The report highlights the importance of volunteers in any community, citing estimates that their time is worth more than 50 Billion across the nation. It was also noted that the number of volunteers is increasing while the number of hours is remaining constant – so, we have more volunteers with a little less time. The report goes on to talk about local trends and makes several recommendations to improve volunteerism in our community – you can read it on our website or request a copy on or after January 23rd. Every not for profit organization relies on volunteers, some of them entirely. I’m proud that volunteerism is alive and well in the spirit of our community and I hope that it will continue long into the future.
Finally, it is important that everyone knows United Way Perth-Huron is supported by more than 600 volunteers, an incredible resource that is the heart of our organization. Without them, we would not be able to do a quarter of what we do. All of them help us by providing expertise, time, and support and each one is making a huge difference. Thanks for your hearts. You know who you are.
