6th Annual “Care-A-Van of Hope”
Raises $114,000 thanks to Community and Scotiabank Match!
United Way Perth-Huron travelled both Counties on Thursday, December 8th for their 6th annual Care-A-Van of Hope.
Riding on a chartered bus sponsored by Cherrey Bus Lines, a group of volunteers, supporters and staff travelled to Scotiabank branches across the region on a mission to ignite possibilities!. Throughout the day, they made stops in St. Marys, Exeter, Goderich, Listowel, Milverton, Mitchell and Stratford. In support of United Way Perth-Huron, they collected donations made at each branch between Nov. 28th and Dec. 8th, and were given additional on-the-spot donations from attendees. Local United Way Supported Partners were on hand to share real-life impact stories focusing on At-Risk-Youth and Preventative Services. Branch staff and local dignitaries were also excited to welcome the Care-A-Van and enjoyed trying to catch a shot of Where’s Waldo, who also rode the bus and played hide and sneak with locals.
Through a partnership with the Team Scotia Community Program, the efforts of each branch, and the generous donations of many individuals, businesses and corporations, Scotiabank helped the United Way raise an incredible $114,00. This amount includes the $15,000 Scotia match. The day ended at the United Way thermometer in Stratford where two bulbs were lit bringing the community 50% toward the goal.
Andrew Williams, Campaign Chair, enjoyed the overall experience of the day. “We had an incredible journey, visiting the vibrant towns in both counties, thanking donors that make United Way’s work possible, and hearing from our Supported Partners.”
The amount raised is an enormous help toward the 2016-2017 goal of $1,337,000.

Scotiabank to Match $15,000, Igniting United Way
6th Care-A-Van of Hope
Watch for Waldo on December 8th for a Chance to Win
United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH) is grateful for the community partnership with Scotiabank and excited to announce the 2016 Care-A-Van of Hope. Scotiabank branches across Perth and Huron are collecting donations from Tuesday, November 29th to Thursday December 8th. Through their Team Scotia Community Program, Scotiabank will be generously matching donations up to $15,000. For those who have yet to make a donation this year, now is the time to double your effort and impact.
Don McNabb, Community Branch Manager at Scotiabank shared, “We’re so honoured to be involved with this matching program for the 6th year. We know there is need in our community and Scotiabank is happy to work with the United Way of Perth-Huron to help make our community better for everyone”.
On Thursday, December 8th, UWPH staff, volunteers and supporters will travel to Scotiabank branches in St. Marys (9:25 am), Exeter (10:25 am), Goderich (11:45 am), Listowel (1:50 pm), Milverton (3 pm), Mitchell (4 pm) and Stratford (4:50 pm) to receive the donations raised at the branches and accept additional contributions. The community is welcome at each stop and will hear from a local UWPH supported partner and the impact your donations have on building a stronger community. More details are available at perthhuron.unitedway.ca
Community partner, Where’s Waldo will be out and about in each town as he rides the Care-A-Van of Hope. The community is invited to take a selfie with Waldo (if they can find him) and either Tweet or post on Facebook and add the handle #wheresUWPHwaldo – for a chance to win a TV.** However, he’s warned United Way that he’s in a festive yet tricky mood and there might be some pretty heavy searching involved. He wishes everyone GOODLUCK (as he wouldn’t mind the TV for himself, to watch Christmas movies with his girlfriend Walda).
The day concludes with gathering around the United Way Perth-Huron Thermometer in Stratford at 5:20 pm where United Way will ignite another bulb and celebrate community – all are welcome.
United Way extends a warm thankyou to Scotiabank for their ongoing support, not only donating through employee giving, but as a partner in the Care-A-Van of Hope. We express our gratitude to Cherrey Bus Lines for discounting the bus for the tour. Waldo is also thanked for his community spirit.
