Many people stayed indoors on Friday but United Way Perth-Huron (UWPH) was inspired to go outdoors and light another bulb on the United Way thermometer and celebrate another accomplishment, with $1,081,699 raised so far.
“It’s been a campaign of milestones for us,” says UWPH Executive Director Ryan Erb, “We knew the $1.5 million we asked for at the beginning of the campaign was courageous, but we set it to reflect the needs in the community. Thanks to our great communities, volunteers and staff, we’re on pace to raise more than we ever have before!”
That kind of success doesn’t come easy. UWPH has been using a combination of peer-to-peer canvassing at workplaces, corporate donations, as well as unique events to raise awareness and provide opportunities for everyone to support the annual campaign. The ABBA and Bee Gees tribute show coming up on Saturday, January 27 at 8:00 pm at the Stratford Rotary Complex is just such an event.
“We’re very excited about this concert,” UWPH Campaign Chair Andrew Williams says, “It’s a chance for people to get out and have some fun and contribute to the campaign. Definitely a win-win.”
Joining UWPH at the Campaign Thermometer were workplace volunteers Donald Bell, representing LCBO, and Luann Strasser from the Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA). These organizations are two of United Way’s top donors and represent 21 locations across the communities of Perth and Huron. LCBO contributed $62,992 from their Give Back Where You Live at the Till campaign and HPHA contributed $60,036 from their workplace campaign.
“We’re grateful these amazing organizations, and many others, have chosen to support United Way. They help demonstrate what communities can do when everyone pulls together to achieve a common goal.” Erb concludes.
